The Dewoitine D.520, under the command of 18-victory ace Pierre Le Gloan in the service of GC III/6 of the Vichy French Air Force, played a significant role during the conflict in Syria in 1941. Facing increased pressure from the Allied forces, especially the Free French and British, the D.520 became a key asset in Vichy France's efforts to maintain control in the Middle East.
