Built around the formidable GAU-8/A Avenger 30mm cannon, the A-10 could destroy armored vehicles with devastating accuracy. During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, A-10s of the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, including aircraft from the 706th Fighter Squadron, were deployed to the Persian Gulf as part of the coalition effort to liberate Kuwait.
