- The Northrop F-5N Tiger II is a modernized adversary version of the classic lightweight fighter, acquired by the U.S. Navy to provide realistic dissimilar air combat training for fleet squadrons. Originally designed as an affordable, agile supersonic fighter, the F-5 gained combat experience in multiple air forces around the world, proving its effectiveness in both air-to-air and ground-attack roles. The Navy’s F-5N variant was refurbished and upgraded with improved avionics, structural enhancements, and compatibility with modern training systems to extend its service life as a dedicated aggressor aircraft.
- Aircraft 761533, marked as “Red 117,” served with Fighter Composite Squadron 111 (VFC-111), known as the “Sundowners,” in 2014.
